More things:

- Diggnation is ending in December. I know most don't care, but I posted most of my thoughts via Twitter yesterday. I'm behind by almost a year, but I'm glad there were more episodes. It was supposed to end last December and when it didn't, I was glad. They probably won't come back to NYC, but I'm glad they at least made it here--they always talked about doing tours, college or otherwise, around the US/world and never did. I'm much more okay with it ending now than I was when they announced last year that they were going to stop soon. And with that chapter of their lives closing, so does mine. It's time for me to move on and maybe be more of a producer of entertainment and not so much a consumer.

- To that end, my fall schedule isn't much. Right now I'm just downloading all the aired episodes of new stuff to see if I like them but I'm not keeping up with a lot of my old shows. It's weird, but the only ones I'm keeping are It's Always Sunny, Archer, and Modern Family. Well, I'm keeping others that don't really adhere to summer/fall seasons too, like Leverage and my USA shows (not Psych, though, I've finally given up on that one). But I'm testing out 2 Broke Girls, Whitney, Person of Interest, Revenge, Suburgatory and Once Upon A Time. I was going to watch Playboy's Club but it's already canceled so TROLOLOL MAKE MY LIFE EASIER. Hopefully I'll have time to watch them all on Friday!

- Alex Goot is my herrooooo. I don't think I knew he covered this song, but STARS IN MY EYES FOREVER, GOOT. <33333 (Youtube is being weird, so you only get a link. :/ )
bohemia: (Seasonal - Champagne for my real friends)
My friending meme, the one I just sort of threw together and launched at you guys, is still going pretty strong! As is this one. GO. FRIEND. BE MERRY.

AND HELLO TO ALL MY NEW FRIENDS FROM BOTH OF THOSE MEMES! I promise not to scare you away... right away, anyway. XD

There is this sticky post that may help you get to know me/add me elsewhere and next entry I'll do some sort of "get to know me" meme that'll help, too.

It's New Year's Eve and I had plans for the first time in my life but since everyone in my house is sick with this super-flu thing I figured I'm needed at home. I think I'm finally catching the virus though, because I'm achy and my throat hurts. :/ My sister's working though, so there will be a lot of music happening in here. Just me and the dogs, OH YEAHHHHH.

AH 2010 I'M GOING TO MISS YOU. 2009 was so awesome and I was sad to see it go. But 2010 was the year of screenwriting! playwriting! creative writing! stage managing! DC! drunky times! concerts (outside and in)! Boston (♥)! Gay Bars! Quidditch! television production! charity events! I'm getting a little misty just thinking of it, not even going to lie.

When it came to the media challenge of the year, I failed miserably with the movies and worst with the games (;_;) this year, but reading-wise... is up to your interpretation. I went hardcore on manga and I... read a lot of the NYTimes on my phone? I'M SMART, TRUST ME. Also, I sort of... forgot about the movies after a while. I was so busy I went back and looked through my Miso account for some round-about dates on the last few months. So that may not be as accurate as last year's. Whoops?

2010 meme-y thing cobbled together from various ones I saw floating around )

Also, Britney Spears' new song is coming out on the 7th and I'd like to think that's my birthday present from the music world this year.

And from the tech world this post, specifically the part where he says MORE LIVE DIGGNATIONS!!! I WAS SO SAD THAT 2010 WAS THE LAST OF THEM. I'm so behind on that podcast but now I know there is still more to come!

ANYWAY, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. I HOPE YOU HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY AND I'LL SEE YOU ALL ON THE FLIPSIDE!

I'm really disappointed Lost keeps getting forgotten when I do these posts. I come home on Tuesday and it's already on so I have to wait a while before I get to see the episode, and right after that I'm doing homework so I never get the time to write anything down to comment on. Then again, a lot of this season has been answers to things I've sort of figured out or theorized enough to understand to my own satisfaction, so it's not the "WTF WTF" that it seems to be for most people. I don't really feel like I need to write things down and/or discuss it. But the last episode was a Hurley one, so I did enjoy that one. And the guest stars. ;)

YOU GUYS. BEST NIGHT EVER. CAN ONLY BE EXPRESSED IN PICTURES.

If you have dial-up, you should go visit your cooler friend who has fast internet, maybe even sleep over, before thinking about opening this. )

THAT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE ENOUGH PICTURES.

HAVE AN EXTRA "OMG REMEMBER WHEN THEY WERE ON JIMMY FALLON?!?!" PICSPAM

Okay, now I'm gonna go watch In Plain Sight, Burn Notice, The Unusuals and Royal Pains from this week.

Lia
bohemia: (Dr. Horrible - Fingerwaggin')
I was so bored today. Life's not as fun when there's no movies to watch, E3 has no conferences and you're not in the mood to marathon TV. I did finally see all of CQ, but apparently I was only missing the last five minutes. WTF.

So I got started cataloging and re-naming all the macros I've saved over the last two years. IDK why I'm suddenly in "cleaning" mode for everything. Fic, links, macros, movies...

But I love macros. And I really love those pepper macros and I've been collecting the fandom ones like they were trading cards. I guess macros are trading cards for fandom, in a way. I wish there was a pepper macro for Steve Wiebe. I would do it, but I wouldn't know how to be random and witty like most of them are. And macros are best when they're funny. When they're not, well, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

I also re-did my layout. I can't go without a smooth sailing layout for too long. It's just simpler to me. Plus, I did so much re-editing with this one that I don't think I can still credit the designer. I still am, though. Because I'll never be able to make a layout by scratch, I don't think.

LIVE DIGGNATION TOMORROW AT WEBSTER HALL. YOU BET THERE WILL BE A RECAP WHEN I GET BACK, OMG. I might even re-watch the Jimmy Fallon episode after (Bryan Brinkman's going to the live Diggnation too, lol) and picspam that as well, who cares knows.

Lia
bohemia: (KKBB - Jonny Gossamer)
So I'm finally getting around to reading fic I've saved in my "to-read" folders and tags from the last two years. At ten fics a day (with the way my family runs) it'll take about a week. Excuse the years-late comments. The good thing is I'll be reading all the fic y'all post from now on, like I used to. So there's that.

Anyway. The whole Diggnation in NYC in June thing is part of the Digg.com Meetup schedule (haven't kept up with Digg in the last year either, whoops) apparently, but they're coming to Webster Hall which is amazing, because I've always wanted to have an excuse to go there that wasn't for some random rave or whatever they usually do there. So next week! Just as excited as last year. Maybe this time I'll get decent pics of Prager and Hippie. I still want the TRS boys to come along, though.

In movies that I have watched recently, Night at the Museum 2 was entertaining and I totally didn't know all the cameos that were going to happen, nor did I know John Schwartzman was the DP. And he's not officially a Coppola, but he works a lot with Nic Cage and he's an alright cinematographer. When the inevitable two-movie pack comes out, I may buy that. I'm also finishing up on the Star Trek movies prior to the 2009 reboot and I'll talk about them as a whole when that's done (if all goes according to plan, First Contact, Nemesis and Insurrection will happen tomorrow). But at this moment in time, Voyage Home is easily my favorite. "I think he had too much LDS." XD Unintentionally insinuating Spock likes Mormons equals AMAZING.

And finally, I've started researching Castiel more for this fic I'm writing and I keep coming across video interviews of Misha Collins and I'm really starting to like the guy. I still get super-protective when someone doesn't understand fandom or reacts to fans like we're aliens, but it feels like he's trying his darnedest, so that's a plus. And he's amusing on Twitter.

Lia
bohemia: (My Boys - PJ)
Totally forgot all about the bonus Jonas (see what I did there?) episode on Sunday. I love how they're bringing Frankie and Big Rob into the show too. lulz, wtf, Disney.

How I Met Your Mother )

As for Dancing with the Stars, I disagree with the results. But by fall I'll forget who won anyway, so it doesn't matter. There's been many seasons where people were robbed on this show, anyway. Nothing new.

My Boys )

After tomorrow I'm done with school, and it usually takes me about two weeks to get used to not having to wake up, not having papers to do, not being free on certain days.

Lia

P.S. Diggnation's coming back to NYC in June. Alex tweeted about it, but didn't give details. Tease. I'm 70% sure it's for the Webbys again, but I reaaallly hope the TRS boys get to come along again, because maybe this time they'll do a live show. All I'll say is that a picspam may be in order when more details are released. *EEEEEEEE*
bohemia: (Celebs - Demetri)
Well, this was supposed to be a picspam entry, but Barney needs your votes at the Fandom Steel Cage March Madness, and I couldn't find last night's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon anywhere in a format where I could make caps for a picspam.

Have a LOL at Prager's craziness being posted all over the net (and subsequently questioned) instead.
Intruder confronted live on Twitter
Intruder confrontation a stunt?

If he or the story pops up on Good Morning America tomorrow, someone tell me! And this Telegraph, it's not much more than a tabloid newspaper, right? Because most of the random stories on Digg seem to come from that site/paper. And let's be honest, half of this stuff (especially random things like this) would never fly as journalism at NYTimes.com.

And go vote for Barney. He's awesome squared.

You guys, my dad (and my newfound Gaiman obsession) has turned me onto this podcast called The Moth and I highly recommend you go check it out. It's a bunch of stories by people from all walks of life, but it's not the "Once a upon a time" type of stories. They're more like, "This is what happened to me this day in June two years ago," type deals. The lot of them are interesting, although some are hysterical and others are heart-wrenching. I was planning on making a huge "Podcasts I love and you should check out!" post soon, so I'll upload some of the better stories that I enjoy then. But until then, check out the episodes on iTunes, because they seem to update a lot and I don't want you guys to miss out on a gem that I haven't listened to yet.

Speaking of podcasts, wtf is up with AC360Ëš getting longer? When I first started listening it was around 10 minutes long, and now it's up to 30 minutes. I hate just watching the latest episodes of news podcasts because I want to know what was going on in the world while I was ultra busy. But seven hours of old news is almost too much. I clearly have priorities though, because being seven episodes behind on Diggnation is almost nothing to me (I'm actually only one episode behind atm).

Last night I was out of my mind with boredom. I think my instant gratification disease is attacking again. There's so many things I want to do but all of them take more time than I'm willing to spend on a single thing. I want entertainment right here, right now. Eventually I gave up just wasting time and ended up-- at 4am, mind you-- making a background for Twitter, re-doing my LJ layout and staring at my Twitter pic wondering whether I should change it, too. I had a few dreams but they're all jumbled right now since everyone kept waking me up about every five minutes and I don't know which dream was which.

Something is wrong with the world when Downey and Hugh Jackman receive stars on the Walk of Fame in the same year. I don't know what the criteria is, but is Hugh Jackman really that deserving so soon? As far as I can tell he's only been around since 2000. I awww'd about Macy and Huffman getting stars the same year. And lol @ Tinkerbell and the Village People.

I don't know why I was so late to the party but this (seemingly) dead fic-a-thon is pretty interesting to go through. I feel odd with films like Zodiac, Good Night, Good Luck and Fur which are about real people. You'd think it'd be like RPF and that it wouldn't be weird to me because I don't mind RPF, but just the idea of there being fics about these movies is weirding me out. Especially Fur since that in itself was an AU fanfic on celluloid. I wonder how Arbus's family feels about that movie. My views on fan fiction have changed lately, anyway. I'm more interested in anything that's not slash. And my flist being what it is, that is very hard to find! Not that I'm frustrated by it, it's just an amusing fact.

Now that I'm reminded of other creepy subject matter, I was having a conversation with my dad the other day about the CGI in The Incredible Hulk and I mentioned the uncanny valley and had to explain the theory to him. We started talking about how it's creepy when animals show signs of intelligence like when you go to the zoo and the gorillas wave or wink at you or when you're trying to squash a roach and it plays dead so you leave it alone. And I figure that the reason humans find humanoid robots and animals so creepy is because we have a superiority complex. Dad mentioned this Nat Geo program we watched in March about how gorillas have faster memory than humans and I said that that's not creepy because we assume it's a necessary skill for whatever they do in the wild. Kind of how squirrels always remember where they put their nuts but I can't remember my password for GMail when my notifier conks out on me. It's the same way we are amazed and not scared by birds or platypi. But when animals show signs of genius at human levels-- like the roach that tried hiding under a glass container so I wouldn't send him to his maker-- it's weird because we think, "Wait, we're supposed to be the ultimate beings here, not you. How does a mouse, a simple rodent outsmart me, a human!" And I think that's part of the reason why that beach scene in Planet of the Apes is so scary because it's like evolution denied us what we're supposed to be. Does that make sense?

Anyway, My Boys is about to start, I need to load up The Sims 2 and I'm looking into other simulation/strategy games. I'm thinking about getting Black & White or the latest Civilization since I loved the demo so much on my old computer. There also needs to be a new bar-tending simulator. I missed my chance to own Last Call back then as well. Anyone play any of these god games? I really want Spore as well, but that's not shocking news.

First of all: RIP Stan Winston. I was pretty shocked to hear this. Hollywood won't be the same without him.

Yesterday was a crazy day all around. I ended up not going to the Rooney concert because I decided that seeing Kung Fu Panda and The Incredible Hulk were more worth my money, especially since Rooney had no new material to perform-- and I'd seen them in November which was relatively recent.

So my sister, nephew, dad and I all went to see Kung Fu Panda, even though dad was like, "I'd rather see the Hulk!" And it was adorable-- better than I expected and funny to boot. I spend most of the time watching animated movies just marveling at how far they have come, both in storytelling and effects. It might just be my family, but a lot of these so-called "kid's movies" are more fun for the adults than the kids. During one particularly fascinating fight scene I glanced over and my nephew was snugged up to my sister, but my dad was on the edge of his seat and leaning on the seat in front of him, lol. Things like that are why I love my dad. He's never grown up, for better or for worse. I would've loved to have been able to by him a PS3 and a HDTV for Father's day like I wanted. But we bought him a power drill... for the home projects that he never does? IDK, it's hard to buy affordable stuff for a selfless man like he is. I hope everyone had a good Father's Day with whoever is their father figure.

Later on my dad and I went back to the movies to see The Incredible Hulk-- and two seconds before we left my aunt called to implore us to go see The Incredible Hulk XD My dad was like, "Actually, we're leaving right now." And it was good, but I wasn't floored by it or anything. I will say that Edward Norton does fit the Ultimates Banner much better and while I still don't see Liv Tyler as Betty, she did great. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky will approve.

In my mind I have this idea that Downey, Favereau, Howard, Leterrier, Norton and Tyler are all calling each other this weekend saying welcome to the club and that congratulations are being sent all around. I think the camaraderie of Twitter has taken its toll. That, or my mind is just thinking in Entourage terms again.

OMG, ALSO. THE CLONE WARS TRAILER. I am uber-excited. Shaak Ti!

Some links I found while clicking around the net:
Transporter 3 French trailer (Frank Martin! ;djks;afds)
First look at DragonBall Z movie (lol, Justin Chatwin)
New Apatow comedy (just look at the cast, you guys: Seth, Jonah AND JASON?)

And I meant to share this when it was on Diggnation ages ago, and most of you have probably seen it by now, but this video is long, yet awesome.

And this story might be of particular interest to [livejournal.com profile] sparrowlove, lol.

I'm like, six issues away from the end of Y: The Last Man and I'm scared. And the fact that the director of the upcoming movie wants Shia LaBeouf to be Yorick annoys me. Yorick isn't a stuttering idiot. Shia can act tough, but he can't be tough. Yorick is more Sean William Scott or Bryan Greenberg. This feels like my very own version of the Twilight fandom's frustrations when they didn't get their Edward and Bella.

Before we get into the spam, which is mostly videos here, I need to relay a story.

Back when Tech TV was around, there was a show called The Screensavers. It was like any of those morning news shows like Good Morning America-- except it came on in the afternoon and was all about tech news: video games played a small role, but there was G4TV for that. Tech TV had everything to do about computers, software, peripherals, company mergers, all the news that a tech geek was interested in, without any of the stupid tabloid crap. Eventually Tech TV and G4TV merged, and a lot of Tech TV shows went dark, but The Screensavers crawled on. Eventually G4TV began its sad descent into Spike TV version 2.0 (Spike TV is a great channel, we just didn't need two of them), and The Screensavers got twisted into Attack of the Show! The younger hosts survived the switch, including Kevin Rose, Brendan Moran and jerks like Kevin Pereira and weirdo Sarah Lane. At this point, AOTS was still okay, because there was still an element of tech news to it. But once Kevin Rose got the boot, it easily descended into Kevin Pereira's hour of hating on WOW players cooler than he will ever hope to be. Pereira is actually still the only person from the days that I recall to still be employed by G4TV, which boggles my mind.

Anyway, after a few months of not hearing about Kevin Rose anywhere, I decided to do a quick search online. It turns out he had started two companies and a podcast in this absence. I immediately started downloading the past episodes of the podcast, which was called Diggnation. It's been going for two years, and while it's definitely broken away from its original claim to "cover the top news stories on the popular social bookmarking site digg.com" I still find these two dudes hilariously entertaining. So onto the fandom post!

This is my favorite story of all time! )

You can get the podcast at Diggnation.com or iTunes (but iTunes only has recent episodes.)

The annual holiday clip episode is always a blast as well. 2005 2006 2007

I am finally up to date with all my podcasts after a huge 3-day marathon. I gave up on Mugglecast and Pottercast because those two are insanely updated and I'm in a bitter state right now. I can't be listening to all this talk about Terminus all the time. But Diggnation, TAI TV, WebbAlert... all caught up! WOOOOO

So, uh, bandom. I don't know how many of you are into it, but it reminds me of the pop slash days so I feel nostalgic and old reading all these things. I'm not obsessive about it, but I've dabbled. I'm mostly amused at how there's at least one member of each band that I think is insanely pretty or hysterical. The exception is Cobra Starship, which is the only band (besides MCR and TAI..., but I've listened to MCR since the beginning so I've never considered them a part of all this and I don't have any real CDs from TAI... yet) to whose albums I actually listen.

Why is this relevant? Why, my dream of course! )

Oh, and tourfilter.com is pretty awesome.

lol, I was going to ask what fandom of mine do you guys not know about, but that's a stupid question. So go to my profile and pick something off there you don't know about. I want to do a fandom spam type thing on something no one really knows about. All the bigger fandoms are represented here, and that sort of gave me the idea. So... vamoose.

Lia

P.S. Does anyone have that new Alicia Keys song? The one where she just says "no one" fifty million times? I kinda like it...
bohemia: (Diggnation - Good times)
So last night I had this dream where Diggnation was live in the Irish Rogue and somehow James Roday was there. What. I don't know either. It was one of those flash-in-the-pan dreams, but I remember Alex and Kevin sitting near the windows in the corner of the room, James Roday in a teal polo (wtf?) and me wearing a Systm shirt. Now, if I could remember what beer they were drinking, I'd go stock up and buy a Systm shirt just to make it come true. How do they go from California to Japan and London and not NY? And no one knows what the hell I'm talking about. Moving on.

You know what? I think besides James Roday, Kevin Rose is the best well-rounded guy in my opinion. Yeah, that makes sense. Now, if Roday was a Mac geek or Kevin wrote a book then maybe they'd be competing more roughly. But right now they're kinda in different pools of love or what have you. SORRY, REALLY MOVING ON NOW.

I love mashups, man. I think the first one I heard was "The Real Slim Shady" to the backing track of "Oops! I Did It Again!" But this one? BOGGLES MY MIND. Because they actually altered the woman on "In The Closet" to sort of sound like Britney. Insanity. And skills. But mostly me being impressed and jealous. There's also this one, but as much as AC/DC kicks ass I like both songs separate.

And even though I don't own an iPhone, I would really like if Shapeshifter would WORK WITH ME so I can turn my computer into a iPhone rip-off, like I'm planning to do with my cell.

Psych, I don't want you to leave meeeeeeeee. *sobs* But it's on. Watch it, y'all.

Lia
bohemia: (Diggnation - Here's the deal)
I may be the only person who has broken her knee (not really but it's not functioning correctly) by sitting at a computer all day. I usually sit with one leg tucked under me for hours on end. So today I went to stand and just fell immediately because it wouldn't bend. It was hi-larious.

Enough about me. Supernatural starts tomorrow! 24 then is this Sunday and next week is Psych. I am shaking! Not because I'm cold, which I am, but I'm excited too.

[livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky, I may say "dude" a lot, but these two fuel the fire much more than just Shawn from Psych. Diggnation DUDE.

Also, how does one go about creating a feed for a site? There's a few sites I need to track on my LJ and I have no idea how to do it. *is lost*

I caused a back-up of clients at work today. It took all I had to not cry in front of everyone. Plus every time I wrote out a zero on a gift card I put a loop in it, Red-Phantom style. And I have my sister saying "Dude" now.

I may hate Kevin Pereira, but I love his "It Came from Ebay" segment, and I can't find a YouTube video of that echo. And I just got nostalgic for G4. Dr. Tran! Haha, the sole reason (besides Happy Tree Friends, DUH) that I watched Happy Tree Friends and Friends.
