bohemia: (Lost - Unique Properties)
Year One was less funny than I expected, but I can't pass up Jack Black (and certain cameos, omg). I'll probably get to see Transformers 2 on Tuesday. I'm trying not to let the Bay haters get to me, because I know I'll enjoy it, but everyone's making me nervous on Twitter.

Anyway, I got a Tumblr. No one seemed to be able to properly explain the appeal, so I decided to see for myself.

I don't get it. It's like a Twitter version of Livejournal? You make posts that people can't comment on and there's new things to see every day? And you can import feeds from Twitter and Vimeo and YouTube and etc. like Friendfeed, but there's the added pressure that it gets broadcast to your friends (like Xanga? LJ flists?) so it's like Facebook's public thing-y? Everyone I'm following I know on either Twitter or Livejournal (or read feeds through Google Reader) so unless something amazing happens soon (or people rec me things/people/whatever), it feels like I'm getting the same things twice from everyone I know.

I already have Twitter, Insanejournal, Dreamwidth (a openID, anyway), Vox, Livejournal, Wordpress... It's ridiculous.

And just to throw in another unpopular opinion (which I seem to be the Queen of lately) I like Kristen Stewart. I haven't seen Twilight (tried reading the books and couldn't get through Twilight), but I want to because I've liked her since I saw her in Panic Room. I saw Cold Creek Manor only because she was in it.

As for TV, In Plain Sight was AMAZING this week. Royal Pains not as much, but I'm still on board. And Burn Notice was sweet.

Per usual, more recs

Sneaky J2 being hot and sneaky. I LOVE quicky!fic.

[livejournal.com profile] laceandgrace: Sleep In Heavenly Peace (RPS, J2, PG-13)
Schmoopy sneaky Xmas-y fic. :D

[livejournal.com profile] dev_earl: (We're Going Down) Only This Way (RPS, J2, R)
This gets a bit repetitive with the poetic rhythm, but it's sweet and gentle. It works-- for a "Jen's birthday" fic.

[livejournal.com profile] dev_earl: This, Right Here (RPS, J2, NC-17)
Jared using LJ against Jensen! Bwahaha. I was actually thinking of this fic last week when I turned on my computer. I love how angsty it starts out, that you almost forget there's porn coming on the way and then it finishes ends beautifully.

[livejournal.com profile] kickabouttheart: Up Close and Personal (Supernatural RPS, J2, NC-17)
I was way into my con fic before I found this one, which does it more justice than I ever could. But it's also more PWP than I would write, so I didn't give up completely on my own fic.

I realize I haven't spoken about Psych or BSG, but I don't think I'll be doing posts for BSG. I sort of missed the whole last half hour of Psych though. So I have to watch it again before I can actually talk about it. Whenever I get time before the next episode. I did watch Brothers & Sisters and Big Love tonight, along with that We Are One concert. I wasn't going to watch, but then I saw Jack Black, Rosario, Kal Penn and Steve Carell's names on HBO's site and suddenly it was on my schedule. I loved that little girl asleep behind Obama the whole day and also Obama grooving along, lolol.

SNL was a lot better yesterday. Twitter was hating all over it, but hey, at least Rosario sang and used some of her crazy Hispanic impressions. I love her impressions. I just wish they'd let NPH sing last week. But let's discuss my weekend of HBO marathoning!

THIS MEANS I GET TO FINALLY START WATCHING AVATAR TOMORROW! \O/ \O\ /O/ \O/

In other news: ON TUESDAY DAVY COMES OUT. That's the second album from Coconut Records. I have been listening to it non-stop since I downloaded it the other day, but because I only have digital copies of both his albums I don't have the credits and thank yous that comes in the liner notes of albums. That'll always grate me the most about downloading digital music, since I grew up pouring over the thank yous and writing credits of songs whenever I got a new album.

Anyway, there's this one song called "Drummer" that's definitely a downer but also the kind of song with little hints that I'm trying to figure out. So far I get that he mentions his dad dying, dating someone (I'd assume Selma Blair but hell if I'll ever understand how they fit together) and moving to New York. So now I'm trying to figure out who "West Coast" and "Back to You" were about. I always assumed they were random songs or about Zooey-- which didn't make much sense (such a Cali girl). And I'm pretty sure he never dated Kirsten Dunst and she's the only one I know that seems like she would live in NYC. I get too involved with these things. ALSO, I WANT TO KNOW WHO DOES WHAT ON THIS ALBUM AND IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS. I can't tell if I'm hearing two Jasons or Robert backing or if that's Louie on piano or Taylor's guitar. Ugh, damn you digital downloads for being so enticing. WHY ARE THE COPPOLAS SO TALENTED. And why is Nic Cage trying so hard to destroy that image. D:

On Friday they aired the ALMA awards on TV. Now usually, I could care less for any awards show that isn't the Oscars, Golden Globes or Primetime Emmys. But for some reason I decided these were important this year and I taped them. So I watched it Sunday morning, and I have to say I felt pretty proud. With the way society is still focused on white vs. black (and with good reason) in Hollywood, I tend to forget just how many Latinos there are in entertainment. I'd heard people say the reason Cane failed is because America wasn't ready to watch a show about a Latino family. But yet, Ugly Betty seems to be going strongly into their third season. There's not a lot of Latinos on the shows that I watch (by my count: James Roday, Jorge Garcia, Cristian De La Fuente, Dania Ramirez). But then I factor in all the other shows I'm not watching and-- well, you can make a two hour awards show with four nominees in each category, obviously. So there's a lot.

I also totally didn't realize Linda Ronstadt had Mexican roots, what. I love mariachi music, haha. I need to get that album.

Meanwhile, the film we watched last night in Latin American Cinema had SO MANY GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN THE SUBTITLES I WANTED TO SHOOT THE TV. Just... no. I don't even know what they were saying, but hell, what's the point of subtitles when you can't understand them either?

And some random tidbits from my brain over the last few days:

- My connecting bus stop usually has HBO ads on it, (Sopranos, Entourage, John Adams, the Sex and the City movie-- now it's True Blood) so I'm suddenly really excited to start seeing Bored to Death ads.
- I think Jack Black has hazel eyes. I have never seen his eyes look green, but it seems like too much of a coincidence for both Lenny and Po to randomly have green eyes. CONSPIRACY!
- The restroom at my school reminds me of the restroom in one of the Tenacious D short films (this one-- NSFW, like any of the three are), so I can't stop laughing every time I pass the men's room (which I assume has the same style as the ladies') now. Which must look really mature, you know?

I just want to say that I hate Photobooth's movies with a passion.

Anyway, I saw Margot At The Wedding and Epic Movie the other day. I had very low expectations for Margot because I hated Squid And The Whale. But even with it still feeling too close to home, I enjoyed it. Much like I enjoyed the very relatable (Firefox, that is definitely a word) American Beauty. I can't watch men cry without guffawing though, so I probably enjoyed emo!Jack Black a bit too much. Epic Movie was lame and very far off-course from what made the Scary Movie series funny. But I was determined to watch for Kal Penn and Jayma Mays. And then they spoofed Nacho Libre and that made me laugh.

I didn't realized Towelhead came out this week, so if my plans turn to beans tomorrow I might trek off and see that. I'm excited, especially after an unexpected but mostly positive review on Totally Rad Show about it. Aaron Eckhart! Toni Colette! Where is the bad?

But right now it's time for Be Kind, Rewind-- which I swore I'd never see because I'm not really a fan of Gondry's films (his music videos are awesome). But, you know, Jack Black.

In closing, I think I'm going to marry Liam Lynch )

Two things, before I get to the entry:

- Anyone into Star Wars comics/books, which would be the best to start with? I have a fairly basic idea of the EU and I'm starting to crave more stories about the verse.

- I found a pile of D&D, BSG and Serenity RPG player's guides in Barnes n Nobles, and then searched and found all these dice shop sites and OMG, I need a meetup group for this stuff immediately. I WANT TO PLAY.

I saw Tropic Thunder yesterday and I've been thinking about it ever since. I loved it and thought it was much better than Pineapple Express. Since Reality Bites I haven't really enjoyed a movie under Ben Stiller's direction. The Cable Guy was too dark at the time for me (it's pretty hysterical now) and I only saw Zoolander because of Lance Bass's cameo. By the way, is he good friends with Stiller? What's up with that?

I'm sorry a dingo ate your baby! )

I also somehow managed to see the movie, feed myself and buy two magazines (Out with NPH on the cover and Rolling Stone with RDJ on the cover) on $30. Both had interesting articles. I'd read the NPH article a week ago online. I've always been really impressed with how NPH handles himself in interviews, and this wasn't much of an exception. RDJ, on the other hand, broke my heart at one point in the RS article. But my comments on that could be an entirely new entry (true story: I had written three paragraphs on it that I just deleted from this entry), so I'll save that for another day. Or, you know, whenever you guys are interested.

Gay men's magazines are almost as interesting as straight men's magazines, in terms of articles. Although Out is much more thought-provoking, GQ and Esquire are still my favorite magazines to buy when there's a celebrity on the cover I adore.

Also, I'm really behind on podcasts but I just watched TRS and damn those boys. I want to play TV tag now. I would be epic at it.

I finally have my own copy of Psych season two on DVD. That was a long wait (for me, anyway). But I haven't even had time to watch it because I was out all day yesterday and today I'm supposed to go to see Wall•E. Except they just told me to look up the times but not what time I should except to leave so I don't know if I have time to turn on the computer and watch a few extras or episodes. So I'm sitting here flipping between The Holiday and Knocked Up on our new shiny 46" HDTV and itching to go on wifi battles on the Wii.

OMG, [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky! I wish I had gotten a photo of the tattoo (that would've been awkward but I should've done it), but there was this girl on the train yesterday with a tattoo that said 'Dimon'. I thought it said Damon, and joked to her about it being Johnny Damon and she said that no, it said Dimon with an 'i' but that the font is kinda of weird and the dot of the 'i' melded with the rest of it. And that it was her boyfriend's name. HOW EPIC IS THAT?

I saw Hellboy 2 yesterday. It ended abruptly but my love for Del Toro and Doug Jones is strong so it didn't matter. Also, not much character development but good overall. I kinda want beer now. Which reminds me Tecate has an Indio and a Bohemia brew WTH.

I adore the interview of Jack Black in the new Blender issue. I need to watch/own more of his movies.

And okay, this sounds completely random but I sometimes think of movie quotes and then I can't remember the movie. So last night I started thinking of this one scene of a movie where these guys are trying to pick up girls in a bar. The first guy always uses crude language and the second guy doesn't believe it'd work for him but he tries it and it works. And I can't remember what movie it was! I think it had to do with Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler and doing some odd accent but I have no idea. I was thinking about it because I can't stop thinking how bad I feel for guys who feel the need to compliment girls on something every time they see her, just to say something nice. All my friends do it and it's hysterical. I almost want to wear random stuff (like my blue hologram pumps-- one way they're butterflies and the other way they have sunflowers) just to see if they get complimented. Guys are under so much stress to appeal to girls, all girls have to do is show up. The only reason anyone ever dresses up is to look "cute" for their friends. And I have some damn honest friends so I don't really try anymore-- except then they just compliment me anyway.

Oo, wait. There's my sister calling for waaaall•e.

First of all: RIP Stan Winston. I was pretty shocked to hear this. Hollywood won't be the same without him.

Yesterday was a crazy day all around. I ended up not going to the Rooney concert because I decided that seeing Kung Fu Panda and The Incredible Hulk were more worth my money, especially since Rooney had no new material to perform-- and I'd seen them in November which was relatively recent.

So my sister, nephew, dad and I all went to see Kung Fu Panda, even though dad was like, "I'd rather see the Hulk!" And it was adorable-- better than I expected and funny to boot. I spend most of the time watching animated movies just marveling at how far they have come, both in storytelling and effects. It might just be my family, but a lot of these so-called "kid's movies" are more fun for the adults than the kids. During one particularly fascinating fight scene I glanced over and my nephew was snugged up to my sister, but my dad was on the edge of his seat and leaning on the seat in front of him, lol. Things like that are why I love my dad. He's never grown up, for better or for worse. I would've loved to have been able to by him a PS3 and a HDTV for Father's day like I wanted. But we bought him a power drill... for the home projects that he never does? IDK, it's hard to buy affordable stuff for a selfless man like he is. I hope everyone had a good Father's Day with whoever is their father figure.

Later on my dad and I went back to the movies to see The Incredible Hulk-- and two seconds before we left my aunt called to implore us to go see The Incredible Hulk XD My dad was like, "Actually, we're leaving right now." And it was good, but I wasn't floored by it or anything. I will say that Edward Norton does fit the Ultimates Banner much better and while I still don't see Liv Tyler as Betty, she did great. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky will approve.

In my mind I have this idea that Downey, Favereau, Howard, Leterrier, Norton and Tyler are all calling each other this weekend saying welcome to the club and that congratulations are being sent all around. I think the camaraderie of Twitter has taken its toll. That, or my mind is just thinking in Entourage terms again.

OMG, ALSO. THE CLONE WARS TRAILER. I am uber-excited. Shaak Ti!

Some links I found while clicking around the net:
Transporter 3 French trailer (Frank Martin! ;djks;afds)
First look at DragonBall Z movie (lol, Justin Chatwin)
New Apatow comedy (just look at the cast, you guys: Seth, Jonah AND JASON?)

And I meant to share this when it was on Diggnation ages ago, and most of you have probably seen it by now, but this video is long, yet awesome.

And this story might be of particular interest to [livejournal.com profile] sparrowlove, lol.

I'm like, six issues away from the end of Y: The Last Man and I'm scared. And the fact that the director of the upcoming movie wants Shia LaBeouf to be Yorick annoys me. Yorick isn't a stuttering idiot. Shia can act tough, but he can't be tough. Yorick is more Sean William Scott or Bryan Greenberg. This feels like my very own version of the Twilight fandom's frustrations when they didn't get their Edward and Bella.
