Sunday was father issues!movie day as well

First of all: RIP Stan Winston. I was pretty shocked to hear this. Hollywood won't be the same without him.

Yesterday was a crazy day all around. I ended up not going to the Rooney concert because I decided that seeing Kung Fu Panda and The Incredible Hulk were more worth my money, especially since Rooney had no new material to perform-- and I'd seen them in November which was relatively recent.

So my sister, nephew, dad and I all went to see Kung Fu Panda, even though dad was like, "I'd rather see the Hulk!" And it was adorable-- better than I expected and funny to boot. I spend most of the time watching animated movies just marveling at how far they have come, both in storytelling and effects. It might just be my family, but a lot of these so-called "kid's movies" are more fun for the adults than the kids. During one particularly fascinating fight scene I glanced over and my nephew was snugged up to my sister, but my dad was on the edge of his seat and leaning on the seat in front of him, lol. Things like that are why I love my dad. He's never grown up, for better or for worse. I would've loved to have been able to by him a PS3 and a HDTV for Father's day like I wanted. But we bought him a power drill... for the home projects that he never does? IDK, it's hard to buy affordable stuff for a selfless man like he is. I hope everyone had a good Father's Day with whoever is their father figure.

Later on my dad and I went back to the movies to see The Incredible Hulk-- and two seconds before we left my aunt called to implore us to go see The Incredible Hulk XD My dad was like, "Actually, we're leaving right now." And it was good, but I wasn't floored by it or anything. I will say that Edward Norton does fit the Ultimates Banner much better and while I still don't see Liv Tyler as Betty, she did great. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky will approve.

In my mind I have this idea that Downey, Favereau, Howard, Leterrier, Norton and Tyler are all calling each other this weekend saying welcome to the club and that congratulations are being sent all around. I think the camaraderie of Twitter has taken its toll. That, or my mind is just thinking in Entourage terms again.

OMG, ALSO. THE CLONE WARS TRAILER. I am uber-excited. Shaak Ti!

Some links I found while clicking around the net:
Transporter 3 French trailer (Frank Martin! ;djks;afds)
First look at DragonBall Z movie (lol, Justin Chatwin)
New Apatow comedy (just look at the cast, you guys: Seth, Jonah AND JASON?)

And I meant to share this when it was on Diggnation ages ago, and most of you have probably seen it by now, but this video is long, yet awesome.

And this story might be of particular interest to [livejournal.com profile] sparrowlove, lol.

I'm like, six issues away from the end of Y: The Last Man and I'm scared. And the fact that the director of the upcoming movie wants Shia LaBeouf to be Yorick annoys me. Yorick isn't a stuttering idiot. Shia can act tough, but he can't be tough. Yorick is more Sean William Scott or Bryan Greenberg. This feels like my very own version of the Twilight fandom's frustrations when they didn't get their Edward and Bella.

Hulk didn't blow me away like Iron Man did, but I think it was really good.

LOL DragonBall Z. My friend Ren is like uber-obsessed with that movie. She talks about it all the time and posts the latest pictures she can find.

Same here. I like the way they used the credits to give people the backstory. I haven't seen that happen in a long while in movies.

My nephew adores the video games and I'm so tired of it already. But the fact that the movie they're making is live action just has "Street Fighter" written all over it.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVED THAT, OMG!!!!! IF ONE OF THE TRS GUYS DOESN'T MENTION THAT, I WILL CRY FOREVER.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think the lat movie to do that was Godzilla? But y! EXCITED FOR TOMORROW.

Also, Jeff is watching the Love Guru right now? IDK.

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2008-06-18 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, for realz?? idk, I don't even remember that movie (despite having seen it twice, once in the theaters and once on TV).

........OH DEAR GOD WHYYYYYYYYYY (SERIOUSLY, boys, of ALL the movies?????)

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-18 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen it a few times... more than need be. But in the beginning they showed a bunch of the nuclear tests and like this closeup of a lizard's eye and it's-- and Dan totally referenced the same movie but not because of the title and I was mad. :(

But they're also going to see Get Smart! It's another two movie week, I guess. I want to see Love Guru, but I'm just not that excited about it. GET SMART THOUGH, OMG. NICK AT NITE MEMORIES!

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2008-06-19 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
lulz, you should email them and complain about it!! DEAR DAN, TALK ABOUT GODZILLA MORE. LUV, LIA

Oh man, I AM excited for Get Smart, though!! Spies and Steve Carell!! HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, I would except the less anyone talks about Godzilla is probably like, better for the environment.

\O/ The whole cast has me excited and better not let me down, or there will be repercussions... or something. IDK.

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2008-06-19 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
hahahaha, I enjoy your logic!! :DDD

Oh god, they'd BETTER not. There will be hell to pay!! YES, EVEN YOU, STEVE CARELL.

[identity profile] short-chicka10.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen Hulk yet, but I love Edward Norton a WHOLE LOT better than Bana, lol. I saw Kung Fu Panda though, which I liked. It was cute and funny. Thanks to that viral video though, I always think of Robert Downey Jr. kicking Panda's ass, lmao.

HAHA, OHMYGOD. JUSTIN CHATWIN. LOL, I LOVE HIM but that's really random. I didn't know he was playing Goku in Dragonball Z and that they were even making a movie. I was never into Dragonball Z. I might just watch it for him though? lmao.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, Eric Bana is prety good... just not in anything he's done stateside lol. And every time Po was fighting someone I thought of that video, lmao.

I don't even know why he's in it. It's the most random casting choice. And I thought Emile in Speed Racer was an odd choice.

[identity profile] short-chicka10.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I actually haven't seen very many of Bana's films. I did think he did a really great job in Munich though.

Yeah, idk either. I guess Justin was the only one interested in actually doing it, so they're like "What the heck, just give it to him" or something. And yeah, as much as I love Emile him as Speed Racer was a pretty odd choice.

HA, you have jazz hands icon too! plus kung fu-ness. :P

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't even seen that. I should, everyone says it was really good.

That's exactly what I think happened, lol.

Haha, yeah :D

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2008-06-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
while I still don't see Liv Tyler as Betty, she did great. I'm sure [info]splits_thesky will approve.
*BEAMS*

Yo, is Edward Norton married?? Because, if not, he and Liv need to MAKE WITH THE BABIES, ASAP!! I mean, like, I know, acting and all, but that chemistry was freaking off the charts. And not icky and uncomfortable, like some movie "romances"!!! SO, YEAH.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
:D

IDK. But you know, considering Bruce & Betty are canon unlike Tony & Pepper I AM ALL FOR IT. Which doesn't even make sense, but hey, you never know!!!

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2008-06-18 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, it makes ENOUGH sense!! And now you have an iconnnnn SDFUJASDSKFDJNASDKASD!!!!!!!!!!! :DDDD

It's nice to hear that some of us do not have daddy issues. I loved my dad. I'm glad that you had a great father's day.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
My dad goes above and beyond the call, honestly. Every year for Father's day, his birthday and Christmas the whole family tries hardest to show him how much we appreciate him but it's never really enough.

[identity profile] wandersfound.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
LOL AT THAT STORY. Thanks for the link! XD

I liked the Hulk, I kinda felt the same way, because it was good, but not amazing. But I love Ed Norton and I like Liv Tyler. I really liked the opening, how it wasn't some drawn out thing telling how he got the way he was. It works for some movies, but I feel like it wouldn't have been good in this one, so I'm glad they did it the way they did.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
lol, you're welcome!

I figured that's exactly how they were going to deal with it here, and I'm glad it worked so well. I'm sure people completely ignored the credits and were confused, but I think the general population of movie-goers got it.

[identity profile] drumkings.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
That Dragon Ball Z movie... omg. WHY!??? D: D: D:

I want to see The Incredible Hulk... I need to get to the movie theater.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-17 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even know.

It was pretty good! I felt I needed to see it opening weekend since I thought most other people would but it seems like there wasn't a rush for it like with Iron Man. Which makes me feel sad, because even though I didn't like as much as Iron Man I think a lot of people still had the bad taste of the first Hulk movie in their mouths. And it did a real good job of making me forget that one even existed.

[identity profile] patrick roberts (from livejournal.com) 2008-06-18 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
it seems like Shia LaBeouf's popularity has skyrocketed in the last year or so

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-18 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I like him as an actor but I don't think he's right for the role of Yorick.

[identity profile] ewanspotter.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
I just didn't buy Tyler either. And I don't dislike her as an actress... but meh.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think that was the first time I've heard Tyler scream before. And Betty never has much to do anyway, so it's always hard to keep her interesting.
