So I'm slowly getting back into TV. And then after that, maybe I'll get into movies again, or video games. I miss stories. (Getting back into) Reading is a slow process, but it's at a pace I'm accepting for now. Podcasts are another story.
I'm just going to ramble about some shows now, the things I'm watching and such. I have to catch up on Burn Notice this weekend and next up are Happy Endings and Man Up because it's faster to binge 30 minute shows!
I gave up on Suburgatory. I like it, but when I was collecting links to download on Friday I went, "It's not THAT important," and clicked out of the post. I'm having more fun with the other shows.
American Horror Story: I guess I'm smarter than AHS expected its audience to be, or something. Because my co-worker said the Halloween episodes would explain most of it, and I waited and didn't get anything. So I asked him what he meant and he said, "Well, the thing is, all of them are ghosts and they can't leave the house, because they all died there and now they haunt it." NO, PRETTY SURE I GOT THAT AFTER THE PILOT.
Then after the last episode he texted me and said, "They just revealed Rubber Man!" And I wrote back, "You mean when it's not Tate in there?" And he said, "Yup!"
THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE SUIT BUT TATE THE WHOLE EPISODE. DUDES, I FIGURED TATE WAS RUBBER MAN BACK WHEN HE WORE IT THE FIRST TIME. -_-
What else is going to be ~a revelation~
Things I'm wondering at the moment: Why hasn't Larry's family shown up? Because they killed themselves? And why does it matter that Tate made Chad hold the gun when he died? Does that count as suicide? Because Chad still pops up. Why can the ghosts talk and touch things but Moira hasn't mentioned to anyone about her bones in the yard, and Tate /Rubber Man can still go around impregnating people and killing others if they're dead. Also, how would Constance kill Moira AGAIN?
HIMYM and Chuck: HIMYM and Chuck I'm waiting for the end of the seasons for these because people tend to talk about them on Twitter and it's easier knowing "people are angry at Robin for some reason" than knowing the specific plotline and just figuring out why they're mad before I see it. Also, by the time I get around to the episodes this way... I will forget the rage and excitedness everyone else had over certain episodes and have no expectations. I did that with Chuck last year and with the exception of casting spoilers, I forgot everyone's comments and reactions--and really enjoyed marathoning it.
Leverage: Leverage OMG MY HEART YOU GUYS. I was behind so I spent this weekend catching up on S4. PARKER/HARDISON TEASERS EVERYWHERE. First they're playing another couple, and then Hardison ALMOST DIES (THAT EPISODE WAS SO FUCKING INTENSE AJDFKLSAJDFDSADF) and then they danced ... on a DDR mat, but still! Also Eliot continues to be a country jackass gentleman and I continue to accept but not be too excited by the Nate/Sophie-ness.
OH, ALSO, PARKER 2000. <33333333
Misfits: I'm not in the actual fandom here, so I don't really understand the fuss over the Curtis episode. I thought it was handled well, considering I don't really care for Curtis that much. Generally episodes like that would kick a character off of the map for me. But it certainly made me regard him better, although if the only way he can learn things is by repeating the same instance over and over or disguising himself as a girl.... well, he's Curtis, I guess. New Guy is fun, and the last episode I saw (304) was WTF but the show doesn't feel the same without Nathan. And that's pretty funny considering he was my least favorite. I feel like the new guy is too crass with his jokes, but that's also what Nathan did, so I think I just prefer Nathan because he was part of the team, whereas New Guy is just crass and also THERE'S TWO OF HIM.
Hell on Wheels: I HAVE ONLY SEEN THE PILOT BUT LOOK, OKAY, ANSON MOUNT. END OF STORY. I watched The Mountain and City by the Sea for that dude. But the show is actually pretty interesting. I want to see how he gets his revenge without knowing whatChief Levine's character knew. Also, Common, U CRAZY. But I do like Common, even if the character feels a bit CRAZY BLACK GUY right now. I need some more backstory and not just I'M GOING TO STARE AT YOU ANGRILY TO PROVE MY POINT. The other free guy was more interesting. I'm upset he's already offed. It would've been a nice parallel to those Irish doofs, who I also love.
Grimm: Yesterday I came home ready to watch one of this series and one of Hell on Wheels and ended up watching all of Grimm. It reminds me a lot of SPN when it first began and IT HAS CLAIRE COFFEE. SHE'S PRETTY AND I LIKED HER SINCE SEASON ONE OF PSYCH. I was angry when I saw her name as guest star because I thought she was the MOTW but no! She's like their Meg! HOPEFULLY THIS SHOW ISN'T ALL WOMEN ARE EVIL, AND SO ARE BLACK PEOPLE LIKE SPN. Already the guy's auntie is/was pretty kickass even with cancer, so maybe there will be another strong woman who isn't also evil. So far his fiance/girlfriend is just there to feed and sex him up when he needs it.
I don't know when I cared so much about the presentation of women in this series. I thought all of that up just now. What I got was this: Dude looks like Superman, partner is like Kid Cudi plus fifteen years, they're less gay than SPN (not always a bad thing, but eventually I could not unsee it in SPN), girlfriend is Felicia Day meets Leslie Mann and HEY THERE IS CLAIRE COFFEE AGAIN.
Bored to Death: LMFAO THIS SHOW. THIS SEASON WENT PLACES I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO. JONATHAN AMES, WHAT ARE YOU DOING. I miss it being noirish and case by case, but I also enjoy the daylight scenes and character development, so that it isn't just about Jonathan's cases because that would've been formulaic and boring by the next season. I'm glad Ray and Leah broke up finally. I like Leah, but they weren't making sense anymore. And Ray with his son is adorable. George and his whole plotline was fun, and better than last season.
How to Make it in America: SO GOOD. HTMIIA is such a better show this season. I was actually engrossed and making comments out loud during parts with Rachel and Domingo and also, whatever episode it was where Ben banged Yosi's wife first. Because WHAT. CRAZY. (Also the second episode where Rachel was topless because heyyy, Lake Bell. /leers)
I don't care about Rene's plotlines anymore. He isn't believable as a fearful person and there is no chemistry with his girlfriend. I'm more interested in the daughter's lesbian friendships than anything to do with Rasta Monsta.
I haven't watched the newest Hung yet, but that show keeps getting better, too. HBO, YOU'RE ON POINT. At least, with my shows. I hear Boardwalk Empire is getting even more bland than it used to be.
In other news, I know I tend to get into cycles where I'm like, "I WISH I KNEW A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT. I'M GONNA LEARN AN INSTRUMENT. INSTRUMENTS ARE EXPENSIVE. I HAVE A KEYBOARD. FUCK IT, MY FINGERS DON'T WORK THAT WAY. MUSIC IS HARD." But guys, OCARINAS. With my new phone I was able to download an Ocarina app. But it doesn't work properly (you can't play a D note, says one comment on the Marketplace... I just know I can't get a higher note than C) so I decided to price real ones. I won't buy a ceramic one because lololol I am a clumsy person who will break that shit eventually. And also, wouldn't it get nasty, being a wind instrument? I remember the recorder from freshman year of high school getting disgusting with my spit. I don't even know if I'm going to buy that particular brand--apparently there are lots of ocarina makers? Anyway, I figure plastic ones are decent enough. And it's geeky enough that I'd stick with it just for the geek factor, if not the musical accomplishment. WE SHALL SEE.
